Save a Life Pitkin County is a community partnership whose mission is to raise local awareness about sudden cardiac arrest and the effectiveness of immediate intervention with CPR and an AED (automated external defibrillator) to save lives. Our goal is to give every citizen of Pitkin County the training and power to save a life. We envision a day when survival from sudden cardiac arrest in our community will be the norm, rather than the exception.

Every year nearly 295,000 people suffer sudden cardiac arrest in the United States. Only 7-8% survive. This is more than the number who die from AIDS, Alzheimer’s, firearms, breast cancer, colon cancer, fires, motor vehicle accidents, prostate cancer and suicides combined. Why is survival such a rare thing? The problem is largely a lack of awareness and basic training on the part of the public and even some health professionals.  It doesn't have to be this way.

Founded by the Aspen Skiing Company in 1980 to promote philanthropy in the community, Aspen Community Foundation, builds philanthropy and supports nonprofit organizations throughout the area.
